In 2018, Barbara became a part of the Sprucehaven family by taking on the role of Stable Manager where her two horses, Grandi and Finn reside. Barb is the leading force in the horse care and managing of the farm and she provides the ultimate care that our owners have become to rely on.
Barbara’s obsession with horses sparked when she was 8 years old, whilst tagging along to her childhood best friend’s riding lessons. Finally, she was able to convince her parents to let her take part in the sport and since then her passion has only grown.
In her early years, she was very successful showing Hunters and training horses.
While now still spending most of her time at the barn, she has been training in eventing the last few years and in 2019 was S.O.C.T.A Champion in her division with her beloved horse Grandi.
Barbara began her coaching career in 2002 by becoming a certified Instructor in Nova Scotia. She taught for many years before making her move to Calgary, Alberta where she was able to work with top trainers, riders and horses.
Barb loves to teach anything horse related and is also an Equine First Aid Instructor. With her joy for educating she teaches all our co-op students from high school and college programs to ensure they learn and experience as much as possible during their work placements.
With over 20 experience as an equestrian, her passion and enthusiasm for horses and the sport transfers to all her students. Her goal is to develop well rounded equestrians, both on the ground and under saddle, and to give a strong foundation to pursue any discipline they pursue.
Barb has received her coaching certificate for Working Equitation, a new discipline that encompasses dressage and obstacles that encourages riders to ride more accurately and be more aware of their horses and their own positions. Barb runs a small riding program with a limited students at Sprucehaven. Visit Grand's Equestrian Academy www.facebook.com/Grandsequestrian Please contact for more info on lessons.
